Angelina Weld Grimke

Grimke was a teacher and poet, and one of the earliest artists of the movement. She wrote on femininity, being black in America among other pertinent issues of her time.

She was also a playwright whose play, Rachel, has become iconic since debuting in 1920.

Grimke was known to write letters expressing romantic attraction for some of her female friends. Indeed, her falling out with her father Archibald, is believed to have as a result of affairs with women.
